This year will see a refreshed line up of coaches as Olly Murs joins returning Sir Tom Jones, Will.i.am and Jennifer Hudson.

And it seems as though the former X Factor finalist has made himself at home in his new spinning red chair.

Will.i.am said of the newbie: “Olly is quite mysterious like Gavin Rossdale. He has similar circus antics as Ricky Wilson and he has the heartthrob front-man performer vibe that Danny from The Script had. He is like all three of them together. I like Olly a lot on the show.”

And Jennifer added: “I love it! He is so fun. I love his energy and excitement. Since he also had a similar experience, he can relate to the contestants too, which is cool.”

She continued: “It is so fun and such an interesting panel. You have Tom, a legend, who I am always blown away by.

“It is just a joy to be in his presence and sit next to him and watch and learn from him. Anything he says is just gold and I just think, ‘wow.’ Just telling his story is history, iconic.

“Will, I swear his mind is like outer space. Just trying to understand his thought process and how he thinks keeps me going. What is Will saying? What is he thinking? Where is he going with this? But it makes it a very interesting panel.”

As for Olly himself, he said of joining the show “It feels amazing. It is incredible to be part of such an amazing show and a show that I have watched from afar for many years. I am really enjoying being part of such a fun, exciting show, it is brilliant.

“It is mad. When I first started I was really nervous to be the new member, it is like being in a new class at a new school with all new kids, I have got all these new people to meet and they all know each other and they have got to get to know me. Will they like me or not? I don’t know, but I have settled in brilliantly.

“I was really nervous to start off but everyone is really lovely and the whole team is great to work with and they have made me feel really welcome. They are really fun.”

But it’s not all fun and games with a competition between the four piece to put together the strongest line up of acts for their teams.

Declaring Jennifer as his biggest rival, Olly said: “She was the winner last time, the one to beat. Myself, Tom and Will, we have just been all about beating Jennifer Hudson as we can’t let her win again! She has been the one we are all up against.”

The Voice UK 2018 launches on Saturday, January 6 at 8PM on ITV.
