Karis Thomas hopes that The Voice UK will help her get off benefits.
The 17-year-old was eliminated in The Voice 2015 results yesterday, missing out on a spot in the final.
But the Team Rita singer is optimistic about the future for herself and her young baby, who has been living with relatives since she made the live shows.
The single mum from Wales currently lives off state handouts, which she is eager to change.
“The Voice has been more than just a competition to me. It’s my life. I want to become a singer to change my life," the teenager said. “Once you’re a mum you’re responsible for another person’s life, which is why I went on The Voice more than anything.
"I want to know I can give her a good life.”
Speaking to the Daily Star on Sunday, young Karis was enthusiastic about the future: “I want a better life. To not be on the dole any more would be a great thing for me.
“It would be a weight lifted off my shoulders to know I can take my daughter on holiday.
“I want to be able to give her everything she needs.”
Karis' left the competition last night alongside team mate Joe Woolford, leaving newbie coach Rita Ora with no acts in the final next Saturday.
