Ratings for The Voice UK soared last night to their highest figures since the first ever series.

A huge 8.72 million watched last night's instalment of blind auditions.

It was week five and another thirteen acts sung for a spin from one of the four coaches with eight making it through to the battle rounds.

It was well up on both last weekend and last year and was in fact the show's highest rating since the first series began back in 2012.

Over on ITV and there weren't any miracles as their Saturday night line up continued to struggle.

Take Me Out was once again the channel's most watched programme with 3.3 million while Stars In Their Eyes at least stayed above 2 million viewers with 2.34 million tuning in.

The Voice UK continues next Saturday night on BBC One with the penultimate round of blind auditions.
