The Voice 2015: Single teen mum on benefits Karis Thomas wants to turn life around

Karis Thomas

A single teen mum on benefits is hoping that The Voice UK will be the start of a new life for her.

17-year-old Karis Thomas was 16 when she auditioned for the show last year and had a baby at just 15.

The Welsh singer revealed today how starting a family with her then long term boyfriend came as a "shock" to her - we bet!

Things didn't work out and now Karis brings up her young child, Lara, alone in a council flat.

She told The Sun newspaper: “It is hard, and I live day to day, but it’s normal for me. You learn to live with what you’ve got because that’s what you have to do.

“I do wonder how life would have been if I hadn’t got pregnant when I did, but in the end it was a good thing. It made me grow up a lot."

In tonight's show we'll see Karis singing for a spin with a cover of Joss Stone Track.

The teen said ahead of her audition airing this evening: “I want to be a singer so I can come off benefits for good and care for my little girl.

“People always think young mums are rubbish. They think they can’t go anywhere, or do anything with their lives.

“But I’m proving those people wrong by what I’m doing right now.”

Tune into The Voice UK tonight from 7:15PM to see if any of the coaches turn around for Karis.

Other acts on The Voice 2015 this Saturday night include Ireland's Claudia Rose, Essex teenager Brooklyn and hunky Stephan Cornwell.
