The Voice UK won the ratings battle against Saturday Night Takeaway last night.

The BBC One singing competition held its ground against the ITV series which was back an eleventh series.

The two shows went head-to-head from 7PM and The Voice came out on top although took a huge hit with its viewing figures at the same time.

The final blind audition show was seen by an average audience of 7.25 million making it one of this year's least watched episodes, down around 500,000 viewers on last week and down almost 1.5 million on this year's series high.

Even including those who caught up on ITV+1 couldn't put Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway ahead with 6.5 million viewers watching the start of the new series.

In terms of peak audiences The Voice triumphed even more convincingly with 9.24 million to Ant and Dec's 7.42 million.

It's quite a change of fate for the two shows as Ant and Dec were out-performing The Voice when the two went head to head last Spring.

Although this time around The Voice does have a significant advantage having been on air for the past six weeks already with Saturday Night Takeaway launching off the not nearly as success Splash!

However with The Voice auditions now other the ratings are up in the air as the competition progresses to its later stages with the Battles next weekend.

Both The Voice 2014 and Saturday Night Takeaway continue to air next weekend on BBC One and ITV respectively.
