Ricky Wilson has revealed how he was originally offered a spot on The Voice 2014 panel via email.
And the Kaiser Chiefs frontman confessed at first he worried that producers were just asking him to try out for the show as a contestant.
"I got an email, and then I was like, oh no way, I don't want to do that," he said this week. "I kind of thought, maybe they would want me as a contestant?
"I took it to the band and said, 'What do you think about this, guys?', thinking everyone was gonna say no, and they did. And I was like, yeah, it's pointless, we don't need this. And then you sleep on it and you start thinking about how proud you are of your new record."
Ricky went on to rather bluntly admit that he only signed up for the show in order to get more publicity for himself and the band, despite it being against the wishes of his bandmates.
With a new Kaiser Chiefs album out in March, it seemed that The Voice had come along at just the right time.
He told the Absolute Radio breakfast show: "It's on TV, in the corner of everyone's room, and at the risk of sounding vulgar, I kind of want as many people to hear this record as possible because I'm really proud of it.
"I can say to you that I did it because I wanted to give back to the talent of the future, but I've also got a record coming out!"
