The Voice 2013: Lareena Mitchell wants Adele's success

Lareena Mitchell (The Voice 2013 UK)

The Voice 2013 star Lareena Mitchell has said she hopes to follow in the footsteps of her idol.

Lareena revealed to the coaches on Saturday night that she worked as an Adele tribute act, following her successful audition.

The mum-of-two performed Walking On Broken Glass for the panel, joining Sir Tom Jones' team.

But despite singing the Annie Lennox number, Adele remains Lareena's music favourite.

“She’s definitely my idol,” she said today. “But obviously I have my own voice and style too — that’s what I’m excited about showing off now.”

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Lareena revealed how she had originally auditioned for both The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent, but never even made it to the screen.

“I’d been rejected so many times before that when it came to the day before my Voice audition, I wasn’t going to go through with it — I thought I’d be wasting my time," she explained. “But my husband Steven talked me round and I decided this would be it — this was my last chance.

“It was the most nervous I’ve ever been in my life — and in my mind I thought I’d blown it.

“So when Tom turned around it was a complete shock — and one of the best moments of my life.”

The Voice 2013 blind auditions conclude on BBC One this Saturday night.
