The Voice UK artist Mike Ward has revealed how he almost didn't audition for the show.
The Team Tom singer impressed the panel last night with his country vocals, getting three of the coaches to turn around after his performance of 'Don't Close Your Eyes'.
Mike, cousin of previous X Factor winner Shayne Ward, now hopes the show will help him out of unemployment.
The former joiner told The Sun today: "Being unemployed is the hardest thing that has ever happened to me. I got a job as a joiner but they had to let me go six months ago.
“Since then the worry has been constant and I’ve struggled to cope with it.
“I’m living with my mum and I’ve had to borrow from my friends and family to get by.”
Speaking to the newspaper about his audition, Mike went on: "My mum put me forward for The Voice without telling me, and I nearly didn’t go to the audition because I am quite shy. But she kept on at me, and now I’m glad she did.”
Viewers last night saw Mike opt to join Sir Tom Jones’s team after impressing all four coaches with his country vocals.
While the auditions, battle rounds and knockouts have now all been filmed, Mike was keeping quiet on the result.
He simply teased: “I’m just going to keep trying my best and hopefully people will like me and it will get me further in the show. It’s great to have such a good opportunity in front of me.”
