Ant and Dec triumphed over The Voice 2013 in last night's Saturday night ratings battle.

The pair won the heated weekend ratings war by a comfortable margin, according to early overnight data.

Yesterday evening saw the return of The Voice UK to BBC One and it went up against the Geordie duo over on ITV at 7PM.

The Voice UK averaged 6.24 million for its bumper opening episode between 7PM and 8:35PM, peaking with over 8.1 million viewers.

It was well down on last year's opening, with the first episode of The Voice 2012 interesting an average of 8.43 million and a achieving peak of 9.6m when it kicked off against stronger competition in the form of Britain's Got Talent.

Ant and Dec meanwhile saw an average audience of over 6.7 million viewers last night, climbing to a peak of just under 7 million.

Including those catching up on +1, Ant and Dec's show was watched by an average of over 7 million viewers, with a huge peak audience of 8.23 million.

It's sure to worry BBC bosses, with the figures well down on even what the troubled live shows for The Voice were getting last year.

The Voice UK and Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway both continue next Saturday, before the return of Britain's Got Talent in a couple of weeks will see a new weekend ratings battle shaping up.
