TOWIE’s Lydia Bright has opened up about her bitter break up from ‘suffocating’ ex James ‘Arg’ Argent and revealed she’ll never take him back.
With rumours of an imminent engagement circulating just a few weeks ago, it seemed Lydia Bright and James “Arg” Argent were destined to be the only couple to have stayed together since the first series of The Only Way Is Essex aired in 2010.
Despite their bickering and numerous on-screen break-ups, Lydia and Arg were seen by many fans as the most solid and genuine pairing on the ITV2 reality show.
But in a frank and tearful interview with this week’s Closer magazine, Lydia admits a series of blazing rows with Arg led to their dramatic split last month because she felt “suffocated.”
She explains: “Being with Arg was killing me. He was suffocating me and holding me back. He was insecure. He felt like he’d won the lottery when he got with me because girls didn’t really talk to him before we met. He got so scared he was going to lose me, he’d say: ‘I can’t let you do this and I can’t let you do that.’ He didn’t even like me going out and every time I did, it was a drama. Then he wouldn’t talk to me to punish me for going out.”
She added: “James wants a girl who’ll stay at home with him. But I’m ambitious and I wanted to do things. I felt like he suppressed me."
And Lydia claimed that fans of the show never saw the gritty side of her romance. “The viewers haven’t seen the bad side of our relationship. He could be so jealous and, in the end, it killed me. We lost our spark,” she said.
