A surgeon has blasted the cast of The Only Way Is Essex for their apparent obsession with plastic surgery. Writing in this week's Reveal magazine, doctor Alex Karidis criticised the stars of the show for making light of serious operations.
Recently Lauren Pope and Kirk Norcross went under the knife to get matching nose jobs, only for the couple to split up a week later. Other members of the cast have had everything from boob jobs to Botox, with Chloe Sims going under the knife to boost her bust to a 34EE.
"They're promoting these procedures in a light-hearted way, which is the wrong message to put across. You shouldn't toy with surgery just for the sake of getting your name in the paper," surgeon Alex Karidis told the magazine.
"There's always a chance that surgery could go wrong. There's a risk of serious complications or infection and you have to weight up the positives and the negatives."
He continued: "Fortunately, it's turned out OK for them and they've had no serious complications, but it could easily have been the other way around."
Speaking about Lauren and Kirk's nose jobs, which didn't appear change anything, Alex blasted: "I can't understand the purpose of this exercise. I can see a very slight different - and I'm talking about millimetre changes - but you don't go into surgery for the sake of millimetre changes."
He added: "You shouldn't go through surgery just for the publicity, that's the wrong way to do it. The fact is when you use a knife on someone, you are exposing them to risks."
The cast of TOWIE and their new bodies return to TV for a third series in September.
