Stars of The Only Way Is Essex including Chloe Sims and Harry Derbidge could be axed for series 3 as producers "trim the fat" and focus on a small group of cast members. According to The Mirror the shakeup could see most of the supporting members going, leaving just the likes of Mark Wright and Lauren Goodger.
A source told the newspaper: "It’s the biggest shake-up to date. TOWIE will revert to its basic formula, focusing on the main characters in the first series.
“When filming wrapped on Saturday, it was very emotional as it would be the last time they would all be together like this.”
Lucy Mecklenburg and model Maria Fowler also face the chop and the future of Kirk Norcross and girlfriend Lauren Pope is also far from certain at the moment.
Mark Wright, Lauren Goodger, James “Arg” Argent and Joey Essex are currently safe from the axe, but Amy Childs may also be leaving. “Mark is the biggest draw," the source continued, "Viewers have been glued to their screens watching the heart-throb play out his turbulent love affair with Lauren, and that’s what they want to see.
“This season there have been a lot of extras thrown into the mix, who detract from the actual drama."
Yesterday we reported how Amy Childs was planning on leaving the show to take part in her own show. The insider revealed: “Amy Childs is popular, but they have been struggling to find interesting storylines for her – Arg even had to flirt with her recently. It’s because her City worker boyfriend doesn’t want to be in it.”
A show spokesman however said: “We are just coming to the end of series two. It’s too early to comment on the next series.”
A third series of the show will air in the autumn.
