Members of The Only Way Is Essex cast have been left "bruised and battered" following an "unprovoked" attack while filming.

A number of the stars of the ITVBe show were in Tenerife filming scenes for the new series when they were set upon by a group of ruffians, The Sun newspaper reports.

Chloe Sims, Georgia Kousoulou, Liam Gatsby and Tommy Mallet plus two members of the film were were apparently ganged up on outside a restaurant in the early hours following an evening at a nightclub.

A source revealed: “Starving cast and crew headed to McDonald’s before getting taxis back to the hotel.

“While waiting for their food, the men got aggressive and started shouting in Spanish, before a full-on fight broke out once they left the restaurant. The girls were screaming after being laid into by the thugs as Tommy and Liam tried to fight back."

The insider added: “Police were called and the thugs ran off, but everyone involved was left badly shaken.”

A spokesperson for The Only Way Is Essex confirmed the "unprovoked" incident and said that everyone involved were now "safely back in the UK".

“Our cast and crew were subject to an unprovoked attack following a night out in Tenerife," they said in a statement. “Thankfully the group were able to get to the safety of the hotel with no one seriously injured. The team are now safely back in the UK.”

The Only Way Is Essex will return for its new series later this year.
