Channel 4 is reportedly working on a summer version of The Jump

Winter contest could move seasons with 'safer' sports after it was rested for 2018

The Jump could yet live on - as Channel 4 bosses are reportedly plotting a summer version of the show.

This week the broadcaster announced that the celebrity winter sports contest will not return to TV screens in 2018.

It had attracted controversy, particularly in the last two years, for the sheer number of stars who injured themselves while slipping and tumbling on the snowy Austrian slopes.

However, it seems C4 isn't quite ready to let go of The Jump just yet.

According to The Sun, bosses are quietly working on plans to move it to the summer - with (slightly) less extreme and dangerous sports than the winter version.

Athletics and hockey are under consideration, as well as water-based events, such as sailing and polo.

"There is a lot of interest in bringing The Jump back as a summer show," a source said.

"Instead of the ski jump, celebs could go head to head in athletics or hockey. Water sports would also be a good option.

"The idea is that as summer sports are less perilous, there would be fewer injuries."

Perhaps the show could even keep its name by featuring a high jump or long jump eliminator round?

A Channel 4 spokesperson played down the rumour, saying: "We are always actively considering a range of programmes, but a summer version of The Jump has not been commissioned."

While the newspaper claims The Jump has effectively been axed, C4 insists it is only 'resting' the show for a while, due to next year's Winter Paralympic Games.

The network said in a statement: "The Jump has been a hugely successful brand for Channel 4 over the last four years.

"However, with such a huge amount of winter sport on screen at the start of 2018 we have decided to rest the show for the year."
