Winner of The Apprentice 2011 Tom Pellereau has revealed he was surprised he wasn't fired by Lord Sugar on the series. The 31-year-old, who won just 3 of the show's 11 tasks, was tonight named winner of Lord Sugar's £250,000 business investment.
"I was actually surprised that I wasn't fired. When Lord Sugar started to point the finger at me in the boardroom after the biscuit task, I was mouthing 'No!'," Tom said. "I never realised I was such a big nodder until I saw it in the show. The funny thing is, Jim's started doing it as well. But if you agree with someone, isn't it nice to nod?"
Lord Sugar's new business partner also confessed the role playing with Melody in the biscuit task still gives him nightmares.
"I can't believe we did that," Tom confessed. "I definitely wouldn't use that again. I also wouldn't use Paper, Scissors, Stone as a way of deciding on a task. I got a lot of gyp for that, but I was just trying to be fair."
Speaking about deciding to apply for the show last year, Tom told buzz magazine: "I was sitting in my flat thinking: 'If I don't apply for The Apprentice now, when will I ever?'. I was getting close to rethinking my life. I'd been to university, but while all my friends had professional jobs, I'd done more unusual things.
"I was starting to think I'd got it all wrong and that my risks hadn't paid off."
Lord Sugar said about picking Tom as the winner of this year's show: "I am a product man in my heart. I’ve made products and sold them to retailers, that’s in my blood and that’s what Tom is all about. It’s just a gut feeling and I’ve done a lot of things in my life on gut feeling."
The Apprentice returns with The Junior Apprentice later this year.
