The Apprentice 2016: Watch candidates get into character for new VR game task

The Apprentice 2016 candidates play fancy dress in this week's episode.

It's Week 9 and eight candidates remain in the running for Lord Sugar's £250,000 business investment.

This week, the candidates get a surprise at The Apprentice house when Karren and Claude appear at the front door to give a briefing that is ‘out of this world’.

Lord Sugar's aides hand over sets of Virtual Reality goggles as they meet Lord Sugar for their next task, all while sitting in the kitchen.

The boss reveals that he'll be testing their imagination and design skills to the limit this week with both teams asked to create a new virtual reality game, before pitching it to gaming enthusiasts at the world famous Comic Con exhibition.

One team dives into the ocean for their game, while the others reach for the stars with a theme that is very much out of this world.

In this preview, we see members on both teams getting into character at a London costume house.

The teams try on costumes for inspiration for the VR game characters with varying degrees of success.

Meanwhile, on pitch day, the teams face one of the biggest crowds in Apprentice history, pitching to an audience larger than in any other series.

In a room full of some of the country’s biggest industry experts and 300 gaming enthusiasts, the pressure is too much for one tongue-tied project manager, whose nerves threaten to tear the pitch apart.

There are no sales to count as instead the industry experts and audience decide the winner by voting for their favourite of the two games pitched.

Mission over and the teams are brought back to reality with a bump in the boardroom. The votes are counted and verified, before it will be ‘game over’ for at least one of the candidates, as they hear the words “You’re Fired!”.

The Apprentice 2016 airs Thursday nights at 9PM on BBC One.
