The Apprentice 2013 spoilers: Candidates must launch online dating websites

The Apprentice 2013

The Apprentice 2013 candidates struggle with their latest task on the show tonight.

After a 6AM wake up call, Lord Sugar instructs the candidates to create a new dating concept.

He tells them: "In the last ten years, the online dating industry has exploded. Over £1.5 billion worldwide is spent on these websites. So what I want you to do is to come up with an online dating concept and create an advertising campaign.

"In a few days time you are going to present your website and TV advertising campaign to a bunch of experts that I have laid on, but I will decide which overall campaign is the best. In the losing team, one of you will be fired.”

Both teams start by deciding on a Project Manager. Jordan and Alex each put themselves forward for Team Endeavour, but Alex once again fails to secure the top job. Despite Alex’s experience in web design and the fact that he has used online dating sites before, both Leah and Myles opt for Jordan to lead the team.

Meanwhile, Jason is chosen to project manage Team Evolve after he reveals he was known as “Cupid” during his university days, due to the online dating site he ran while there.

The first decision the teams need to make is which market to target. Jason and Neil flirt with the idea of choosing the over 50’s for Team Evolve but Luisa is unsure. Convinced they should stick to the ‘young professionals’ market Luisa stresses: “None of us sitting around this table here can relate to mature, over 50’s.”

But Jason holds firm, proposing: “It’s something new, it’s something where we could actually differentiate ourselves.”

On the other hand, Team Endeavour universally agrees on ‘young professionals’ for its site, but struggle when it comes to designing their website.

Watching over proceedings is Karren Brady, who is not convinced there is enough spice to their offering: “They picked young professionals as their target market, specifically aged between 20 and 30. This is young people who want dating to be fun, yet their website is incredibly corporate, very sterile. (It) doesn’t say ‘come here, you’re going to have a load of fun’ to me.”

Will Jason’s gamble on the over 50’s charm Lord Sugar’s experts or will Endeavour find a unique angle for an already over-crowded market?

The Apprentice 2013 airs at 9PM tonight on BBC One.
