Strictly Come Dancing 2012: Victoria Pendleton "desperate" to join line up

British Olympic champion Victoria Pendleton is "desperate" to join Strictly Come Dancing 2012.

The cyclist scooped a gold and silver medal at this year's London games, which she previously announced would be her last competitive event before retiring from the sport.

The 31-year-old told the Sunday Express that she'd be up for swapping her lycra cycling shorts for a sequined ballroom gown.

"If they asked me I’d definitely consider it. I can’t dance and I’ve always wanted to be able to, so I’d really enjoy that," she told the newspaper today. "Plus, I’ve been in sweaty Lycra for the last I don’t know how many years, so being in a sparkly frock and high heels really appeals to me."

The brunette beauty told the tabloid: “Instead of wearing a helmet it will be lovely to have my hair smooth and sleek. I’m really into my beauty products, it’s been my one indulgence.

"I haven’t been able to drink and don’t go out so tottering around the beauty counter is the only way I’ve rewarded myself. If there’s a new product I buy it, they see me coming a mile off.”

It was reported earlier this week that Strictly was in competition with rival reality shows Dancing On Ice and I'm A Celebrity to sign up this year's Olympic stars.

The new series of [cat]Strictly Come Dancing[/cat] starts on BBC One September.
