Ballerina Darcey Bussell is to replace Alesha Dixon as a judge on Strictly Come Dancing 2012, the BBC has confirmed today.
The 42-year-old performer has reportedly agreed to a £100,000 deal to join the series after Alesha quit for Britain's Got Talent in January.
Darcey will join Craig Revel Horwood, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli on the new series of the show this autumn.
“Darcey is a living legend as far as dancing is concerned — and she is just perfect for Strictly," an insider told The Sun. “She took some convincing as it means uprooting and being in cold, wet and windy England for four months instead of sunny Sydney.
“But she said the Strictly job is probably the one thing that would bring her back. We’re delighted to have her on board.”
A spokesperson for the Beeb confirmed via their Twitter account this morning: "Confirmed: The amazing #DarceyBussell will be joining the #Strictly Come Dancing panel later this year. #BBC1"
Ina press release, Darcey said: “I had such a lovely experience in 2009 when I was a guest judge, that coming on board now feels very natural.
"Strictly combines quality dance and great entertainment, which is such a positive for everybody involved. I am very excited and really looking forward to being part of the Strictly team.”
