Strictly Come Dancing 2011: Edwina Currie first to be eliminated

Edwina Currie (Strictly Come Dancing 2011)

Strictly Come Dancing hopeful Edwina Currie has become the first celeb to be eliminated from the new series of the show. The former Conservative MP and novelist - partnered with Vincent Simone - was axed after dancing for the second time last night.

Edwina and Vincent had scored 36 points out of 80 for their first two dances, a Foxtrot and Cha-Cha-Cha. She found herself in the bottom two alongside Boxer Audley Harrison and partner Natalie Lowe, who had scored 43 for his Salsa and Waltz.

The judges' votes were combined with a public vote for the final results, which saw some surprises.

Nancy Dell'Olio, partnered with Anton Du Beke, managed to survive elimination despite scoring a miserable 26 out of 80, coming bottom of the scoreboard.

Edwina said of her exit: “Some couples will stay in because of their personalities, even if they can’t dance or because they’re entertaining.
