A potential replacement for Darcey Bussell on Strictly Come Dancing has been named.

A spot on the Strictly panel opened up this month when Darcey Bussell made the surprise announcement she was quitting.

Darcey has been a judge on Strictly for seven years, sitting alongside Craig Revel Horwood, Bruno Tonioli and head judge Shirley Ballas.

Now according to The Sun, another famous face from the world of ballet could replace the outgoing judge.

The tabloid reports that show bosses are keen to sign ballet star Carlos Acosta.

The dancer and choreographer has even performed with Darcey before.

"Carlos is a huge name in the dance world and has been on Strictly’s radar for a long time," a source claimed.

They added: “Shirley Ballas popularity as head judge proves that audiences love genuine experts, even if they’re not a household name yet.

“Carlos is a vibrant character, full of energy, with vast experience in his field. He ticks all the boxes and has the backing of influential producers. If Strictly can strike a deal, it would be an exciting prospect.”

Currently former pros Ian Waite and Karen Hardy remain the bookies favourites to replace Darcey, according to Ladbrokes.

Ex Strictly professional Karen Hardy is the frontrunner with the bookies at 3/1, however a huge surge of bets on Ian Waite have seen his odds cut into 7/2 from 6/1.

Anton Du Beke finds himself chalked up at 4/1, while 7/1 is the price on offer Alesha Dixon makes a sensational return to the show.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: "It Takes Two viewers will be sad to see Karen or Ian leave the spin off show, but if the money’s to be believed, one of them will be waltzing onto the Strictly judging panel.”

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One from September.

Alongside the main show, It Takes Two will return weeknights on BBC Two with a brand new co-host.

Zoe Ball will return alongside new face Rylan Clark-Neal, who will be helping out Zoe due to her new Radio 2 commitments.
