The singer – famous for his hit Never Gonna Give You Up – has been invited onto the BBC One show.

But chatting to the Daily Mirror, Rick explained why he had turned down the offer.

Rick said: “I have been asked to go on it, but I wouldn’t want to compete on it. I’m not fit enough.

“Greg Rutherford said they practise every hour of the day. I couldn’t do it. Not a chance.”

He added to the tabloid: “I sang on it and they had a bit of a party after Blackpool, a bit of a shindig with everyone dancing.

“All the professional dancers are amazing and we’re there doing dad dancing. One of the dancers said I had moves and should come on the show.

“But I don’t think I could do it, if I’m honest. Not really. It takes a lot… and not to mention quite a few people have broken up over it.”

Rick isn’t the only celeb to say no to Strictly Come Dancing.

Lord Sugar’s right hand lady on The Apprentice Karren Brady previously said she’s been asked to take part on Strictly – and other shows – all the time. “I got asked to a cooking show when I can’t even cook! I’ve been asked to do Strictly a number of times. Every year actually,” Karren said.

Spice Girl Mel C has also claimed she’s been asked every year to take part in the series but always said no. Chatting to the Daily Star newspaper, Mel C explained: “Strictly is really the only one of those shows that I would consider and I have had a meeting with them – they ask me every year to do it.”

“The problem is if you do Strictly it’s so high profile and you’ll find yourself in the sidebar of shame every day. And the money’s s***!”

Strictly Come Dancing will air on BBC One.
