Aston Merrygold is the early favourite to win at 2/1 and has seen strong support from punters before he has even taken to the dancefloor.

The former JLS member was initially priced as a 4/1 shot to take the Glitterball trophy, however as Aston is well known for his keen dance moves, having showcased them on the X Factor and while he was a judge on Got To Dance, punters quickly latched onto him to win.

Alexandra Burke has drifted out to 5/1 from 9/2 ahead of the launch night. The 2008 X Factor winner is now third in line for the Strictly title as her support begins to dry up.

The Saturdays star Mollie King may not be known for her intricate dance moves, but she goes into the competition as the 4/1 second favourite to win.

The rest of the celebrities set to don the fake tan and sequins are Emmerdale’s Gemma Atkinson (6/1), Paralympic gold medallist Jonnie Peacock (15/2), Eastenders’ Davood Ghadami (10/1), Scottish actor Joe McFadden (16/1) and newsreader Charlotte Hawkins (16/1).

Outsiders include magician’s assistant Debbie McGee (25/1), Vicar Richard Coles (40/1), entertainer Brian Conley (40/1), former Holby City actress Chizzy Akudolu (50/1), Sunday Brunch’s Simon Rimmer (50/1), comedian Susan Calman (50/1) and This Morning’s Ruth Langsford (50/1).

Aoife Heffron, Spokeswoman for BoyleSports commented: “Ahead of Strictly Come Dancing’s launch night, punters have been piling on former JLS star Aston Merrygold, now2/1, to take home the Glitterball trophy as we are all very familiar with his abilities on the dancefloor.”

She added: “There was a short lived burst in support for X Factor winner Alexandra Burke who was cut to 9/2 from 11/2, but she has since drifted out to 5/1. There is always an underdog in Strictly and although it is early days, both Mollie King and Jonnie Peacock have been receiving shrewd support.”
