Love Island's contestants could be 'allowed' to join Strictly Come Dancing in future, it's been claimed.

While reality TV names have generally been 'banned' for the BBC One series, an exception could be made for Love Island's stars.

The latest series of the ITV2 show proved a huge hit with viewers and apparently even Strictly bosses have been "obsessed".

An insider told The Sun newspaper: “Though they don’t want to admit it, everyone on the production team behind Strictly is obsessed with Love Island.

“The casting team have struggled to get big names involved and as Love Island appeals to a range of audiences, it makes sense to get them involved.”

However the move could anger long-time Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood who hit out: “It wouldn’t be good for the show. Strictly is all about the calibre of celebrity.”

But the latest line up is already due to include some reality names with two former X Factor finalists.

JLS singer Aston Merrygold has already been confirmed while winner Alexandra Burke is rumoured for the cast.

Right now the BBC has revealed a total of nine names of the official Strictly Come Dancing 2017 cast.

Alongside Aston, confirmed so far are The Saturdays' Mollie King, EastEnders actor Davood Ghadami, Host of ITV's This Morning and regular Loose Women panellist Ruth Langsford, Reverend Richard Coles, and soap actress Gemma Atkinson.

Also on the official line up right now are TV chef and presenter Simon Rimmer, Holby City actor Joe McFadden and BBC Radio 4 comic Susan Calman

Strictly Come Dancing 2017 starts again next month on BBC One.
