2016 ratings: The Voice, X Factor hit record lows, Strictly surges but Bake Off is top

Here's a comprehensive round up of the 2016 ratings from this year's biggest reality and talent shows.

We've crunched the numbers from this year's series of everything from the last ever BBC One Bake Off to what felt like series 189 of Big Brother.

There was a clear and unsurprising winner in the top spot with the Great British Bake Off averaging 13.6 million viewers over its run. The most watched show of the year (so far) was up 1.3 million on average on last year.

Whether or not all those viewers flock over to Channel 4 when it takes over the rights remains to be seen...

Bake Off beat it's BBC rival Strictly Come Dancing into second place. Strictly enjoyed a rise of 300,000 viewers year-on-year to post the best average since 2011.

Over on ITV, I'm A Celebrity was the channel's highest reality show of the year and did the business with an average audience of 10.4 million. Despite complaints about the latest series being a bit dull, viewers were up 500,000 year-on-year.

Record lows for X Factor and The Voice UK

Britain's Got Talent continued strong with an average of 9.4 million but this was 500,000 below 2015's average.

Sister show The X Factor dropped the same amount year-on-year, with series thirteen setting a record low average audience of 7.3 million.

Joining The X Factor was The Voice UK which recorded the biggest drop of any show - down 2 million viewers on 2015 - with its final BBC One series. An average of 6.5 million watched the programme back in the Spring ahead of the move to ITV in January.

The Apprentice concluded earlier this month and was watched by 7.1 million viewers across the series, representing only a slight dip on 2015 (100,000 viewers) despite switching to Thursday nights.

Big Brother ratings

It was a bit of a mixed year for Celebrity Big Brother / Big Brother. The winter run of CBB was down 300,000 on 2015's equivalent series but the summer show was 200,000 viewers up.

The 'civilian' series in the summer also enjoyed a climb in ratings, up 200,000 to 1.6 million, however it was the shortest ever Big Brother to air in the UK.
