Strictly Come Dancing 2016: Laura Whitmore still out with an injured ankle

Laura Whitmore is still out of Strictly Come Dancing 2016 with an injured ankle.

The BBC confirmed hours ahead of Saturday's live show that Laura would NOT be dancing tonight after suffering the injury to her right foot.

A Strictly spokesperson said: "Laura Whitmore will not perform on tonight's Strictly Come Dancing due to an ankle injury sustained earlier in the week.

"She has been checked by a doctor and the medical team on site and they have advised that she rests her ankle and does not dance this weekend.

"As per the rules of Strictly Come Dancing - because Laura and Giovanni cannot dance on tonight’s show - they will receive a bye through to next week and the show will continue with a public vote as per usual. We wish Laura a very speedy recovery."

If Laura is still unable to dance this Saturday, it's expected she will be forced to leave the competition.

Show sources revealed at the weekend that Laura was left unable to stand due to the pain.

And it was reported that doctors told her to rest to make sure the injury isn't worsened which could cause "permanent damage".

This evening it was announced that Laura was still out of action with the injury.

Speaking on It Takes Two, host Zoe Ball said: "Sending our love to Laura and her wonky ankle and we're hoping to see her an Giovanni Pernice back on the Strictly dance floor very soon."

Writing on Twitter earlier today, Laura said: "En route to the Physio to find out when I'm allowed put weight on my ankle again. Positive energy"

Laura said on Saturday was "absolutely devastated" to have been ruled out of performing.

"If it was my choice, I'd be on the dance floor doing my jive with Gio. This was by far my favourite dance," she wrote in a statement.

Laura told fans: "We all train really hard. All of us dancing have aches and pains and I didn't realise the severity of my injury until it was too late. I'm sorry to let you all down.

"My priority is to follow the doctor's instructions to get myself on my feet again without permanent damage and do the thing I love the most, dancing!"

Strictly Come Dancing 2016 airs tonight at 6:45PM on BBC One.
