The former MP last week hit a low of 16 points for his Paso Doble but avoided the dance off.
Tonight saw a rather awkward mistake in Ed's latest routine after a lift went badly wrong.
Ed and pro partner Katya Jones were dancing a Foxtrot American Smooth to '(Is This The Way To) Amarillo' by Tony Christie.
Craig Revel Horwood complained about Ed's "plodding" and "pedestrian" steps and "horrific" lift attempt.
Darcey Bussell was more sympathetic: "It's just a shame you did stumble there, it's a live show, things do wrong, it can't be helped.
"You made a mistake, it's like get back with the programme, you just need to focus.
"Come back ext year, next year?! next week! We know you have it in you, come back next week!"
Len Goodman quipped: "This is the trouble with hitchhiking, you always get a dodgy lift."
He went on: "In your defence, you got into hold, it was just a shame your big spectacular moment went pear shaped."
Chatting to host Claudia Winkleman, Ed and Katya revealed they had nicknamed the move the "glitterball special".
And keen to prove that he could pull it of, Ed and Katya executed the lift in front of Tess Daly after their dance.
The pair went on to score 18 points for the routine, actually up on last week.
