Strictly Come Dancing 2016 confirms Gorka Marquez will replace Brendan Cole

Strictly Come Dancing 2016 bosses have confirmed Gorka Marquez will replace Brendan Cole this weekend.

Brendan had taken time out due to illness in the week as Gorka trained with Anastacia.

Gorka had originally been partnered with Tameka Empson but the pair were eliminated a week ago now.

"I dunno how happy I am about it," Brendan joked about the whole thing on It Takes Two in the week, "He's Spanish, he's good looking, he's got a body that's pretty much the best on the show."

Anastacia cheekily winked at the cameras: "It was awful today, I had an awful rehearsal."

It was announced this evening that Anastacia and Gorka will now perform together live on Saturday night after doctors ruled Brendan too ill to dance.

Speaking on It Takes Two, Zoe Ball read out a statement: "As we know, Brendan has been poorly all week with a chest infection.

"News in this evening, it is now confirmed he is not well enough to dance this weekend with Anastacia. Gorka, who has been training with Anastacia this week, will stand in for Brendan tomorrow evening (Saturday) for their Quickstep."

Zoe added: "Brendan we wish you a speedy recovery and of course good luck to Anastacia and Gorka."

Brendan revealed yesterday (Thursday) he had been told to rest for the week in order to get better for Saturday's show.

The dancer explained how he took himself to hospital last weekend with a lung infection and would return to doctors on Friday for a check up.

"Fingers crossed all will be OK as I am feeling a little better today finally," he told fans before today's disappointing news.

Strictly Come Dancing is back this Saturday and Sunday night on BBC One.
