Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood has branded Will Young dull and disappointing.
The comments in this week's Woman magazine were made before news of Will's decision to quit broke.
Writing in his weekly column for the magazine, Craig took aim at the singer and wrote: "We want the Pop Idol to be a showman like Robbie Williams, but the truth is Will’s a bit dull and disappointing.”
The remarks followed Will suggesting that Craig "had it in" for him and pro partner Karen Clifton following their jive where he scored them just 5 marks.
"I think Craig has it in for us. I'm going to send him a scented candle," he told Zoe Ball on It Takes Two last week.
It was confirmed that Will had quit Strictly Come Dancing yesterday evening, citing personal reasons.
"Due to personal reasons, Will Young has decided to withdraw from Strictly Come Dancing," said a spokesperson for the show. "The show fully respects his decision and wishes him all the best for the future."
Will's dance partner Karen was quick to take to Twitter to express her sadness.
"I'm so sad that Will has decided to quit the show and I know it wasn't an easy decision for him," she posted online.
Karen added: "It was great dancing with him, he was such fun to work with and I wish him all the very best for the future."
The pair had been one of the favourite couples to win before tonight's shock news.
Will said in his own statement released: "Unfortunately, I am leaving the show for personal reasons. I leave with joy in my heart that I have been able to take part in one of the most loved shows on British television.
"I am so grateful to everyone who works on Strictly from the lighting designer to catering to the production team. Strictly truly is the most unique family and I thank them from the bottom of my heart."
Strictly Come Dancing will return this Saturday and Sunday night on BBC One.
