Strictly Come Dancing bosses rubbish 'fix' claims over first results

Strictly Come Dancing bosses have hit back at 'fix' claims over the weekend's results show.

Anastacia and her professional partner Brendan Cole and Kiss FM DJ Melvin Odoom and Janette Manrara were in the bottom two yesterday evening.

Once the judges' marks from Weeks 1 and 2 were combined with the viewer vote, the couples found themselves facing the dance off.

However an injured Anastacia couldn't perform.

Therefore the result went back to the public poll and with the fewest votes, it was Melvin who left Strictly last night.

Not everyone liked the outcome including the always outspoken former Strictly pros James and Ola Jordan.

James hit out on Twitter: “SO!!! Whoever ends up in the dance off COULD fake an injury and go through to the next week on public vote without dancing BULL****!!!”

And Ola added: “B*******! If you can't dance, you should be eliminated!”

Many fans also felt the same with one writing on Twitter: "Outrageous result, if Anastacia wasn't fit to dance then she should have left #notfair #fixed #scd #Strictly #poormelvin"

Another added: "What a fix!! If she couldn't dance again then she should have gone!!! #strictly fix #Strictly"

And a third argued the decision should have still been the judges to make, rather than the public's: "Strictly fixed... #StrictlyComeDancing no dance off - let the judges decide not the public. Not a dance comp but a popularity contest"

A spokesperson for the BBC said in a statement that the procedure was a part of Strictly's rules.

They said: "There was no Dance Off tonight due to a confirmed injury. As per the Strictly Come Dancing rules if the Dance Off cannot go ahead then the result reverts to the viewer vote."
