The former MP is one of 15 celebrities on this year's show and has been partnered with new pro performer Katya.
And it's fair to say she is NOT going easy on him.
In an interview with The Sun newspaper ahead of the first live show, she revealed: "It was quite funny that after the launch show we met at the after-drinks and we were just chatting and he turned round to the bar and had a sip of beer.
“I said, ‘What’s that?’ He said: ‘What?’ I said, ‘In your hand, that beer. That’s your last one.’ He felt guilty and looked at me. I told him it starts right now."
Katya has also put Ed on a carb free diet, but added: "He has a big belly at the moment but it’s good for our close connection."
Ed is an outsider to win the series and admitted watching back his first steps on this month's launch episode was "traumatic".
He told The Andrew Marr Show: “Maybe I’ll emerge from my chrysalis or maybe it’ll turn out I was a slug all along.
“I am not sure which was more traumatic, my dad moves, which look rather more dad like than I expected, or the pictures of me with all these sparkling celebrities, and me looking like the person who is going to serve the drinks in this bow tie.”
Strictly Come Dancing 2016 returns next Friday and Saturday night on BBC One for its first live shows of the series.
