The two shows both aired for the first time this year as Strictly hosted its red carpet launch show while on The X Factor it was week two of the room auditions.
There was no clash and the complimentary scheduling saw both shows enjoy great ratings.
Strictly came out on top with 9.3 million viewers, up 600,000 on 2015's launch and 900,000 viewers on the figure from 2014. The pre-recorded opener enjoyed a peak audience of 10.1 million viewers.
While his show was beaten by Strictly, there is some VERY good news for Simon Cowell and The X Factor team.
Last night's audience of 8.3 million viewers is up 1.5 million viewers on last Saturday and 800,000 viewers on 2015's second Saturday episode.
In fact, it almost matched last year's Sunday final figure of 8.4 million.
That's sure to be a big sigh of relief following last weekend's disappointing launch ratings.
The new series had opened with the lowest figures in more than a decade and down 800,000 on 2015.
Perhaps people just didn't know it was back!
Elsewhere last night, Newzoids on ITV returned with 3.3 million viewers but Stephen Mulhern's Go For It suffered against Strictly, falling to 2.5 million.
The X Factor continues tonight on ITV but Strictly won't return until later in the month for its first live shows.
