The announcement was made tonight (Saturday 20th August) via the official BBC Strictly Twitter and Facebook feeds where it was confirmed that Claudia will be taking part in the brand new series.
“I am a really big fan of Strictly Come Dancing and am so excited to be chosen to take part this year," Claudia said. "I am used to performing in front of big crowds but this is going to be so different to my floor routines in gymnastics – but I love a challenge and performing! I also love dressing up and wearing sparkly costumes!”
18 year old Claudia is an all-around gymnast who excels on floor and vault and is fresh from the Olympic Games in Rio where she competed as part of Team GB.
Prior to her selection as part of the British squad in Rio, Claudia’s career highlights to date include making history in 2014 winning four gold medals for Team England at the Commonwealth Games and in 2015 she won silver at the European Championships before taking bronze in a team event at the 2015 World Championships.
Claudia joins singer Anastacia, BBC Breakfast Presenter Naga Munchetty, model Daisy Lowe, Hollyoaks actor Danny Mac, singer Louise Redknapp, Kiss FM DJ Melvin Odoom, former politician Ed Balls, singer Will Young, TV presenter Laura Whitmore and sports broadcaster Ore Oduba on the confirmed Strictly 2016 line up.
The final four celebrity contestants taking to the dancefloor in the new series of Strictly Come Dancing will be announced on Monday 22 August. One will be joining Scott Mills on his BBC Radio 1 show from 1pm and the final three contestants will join presenters Alex Jones and Patrick Kielty on The One Show at 7pm on BBC One.
