Strictly Come Dancing's Helen George 'upset' after being branded a 'bitch'

Strictly star Helen George has revealed that she was left "very upset" over newspaper reports that branded her a 'backstage bitch.

The Call The Midwife actress had been accused of being a diva behind the scenes, but a source on the show responded: "These reports are laughable, the cast this year are the friendliest bunch yet and they all get on extremely well both on and off camera."

Speaking about the reports this weekend, Helen said: “I can’t lie – it was very hurtful. It was a real shock and I did get very upset."

She explained: “It was the timing of it that was really upsetting. It was Saturday morning and I was sat in hair and make-up – I knew that I had to go out and perform.

“What is lovely though is I now feel like my friendship with the group of contestants and dancers has strengthened because everyone rallied around me."

She added: “None of them believed it was true. They were like ‘You’re our friend’ and said ‘We’re all in this together’. People were so lovely and supportive.”

Last night saw Helen top the leaderboard but she's come under for having previous dance experience, something which she's also keen to clear up.

“I’m 31 now and I did ballet up until I was a young teenager so it’s been a long time," she told the Daly Star on Sunday newspaper. “I do have a basis of learning dance steps but I was never professionally trained – and, to be honest, in all of my ballet classes I was one of the worst."

Helen continued: “Yes, in some dances I understand the posture for ballroom from ballet, even though I had never done it before.

“But when it comes to things like the heel-steps I am starting as fresh as any other contestant would.”

While Helen got the marks from the judges it's the public who decide which celebs stays in the competition.

Find out to see if Helen can avoid the bottom two tonight on BBC One at 7:15PM.
