The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing are preparing for a head on ratings clash this weekend.

And it's looking like the momentum is in Strictly's favour.

The launch show of the new BBC series will air at 8PM on Sunday night, at the exact same time that The X Factor 2014 airs its final Room Auditions episode.

The Beeb previously said it had "no choice" but to face off against The X Factor, due to Coronation Street also airing on the Sunday night.

But X Factor boss Simon Cowell said that the clash would just end up "pissing off" viewers of both shows.

Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper this week, a BBC source said: “ITV will be going down to the wire to make sure they have the best show they can.

“They will be sweating because we’re coming for them. Everyone is quietly confident we are more than a match for The X Factor.”

The X Factor launched last weekend but saw some disappointing numbers on Sunday evening, down 1.3 million viewers on the night before and 1.7 million on last year's equivalent episode.

But a source on the ITV show spun it rather well: “The X Factor’s return attracted the two highest audiences over the weekend.

“Once again the judges and the talent are a huge national talking point and we’re only one week in.”
