Best known for playing Albert Square’s notorious bad boy and womaniser, Max Branning, Jake’s character has been at the centre of a series of big storylines over the past eight years.
But away, Jake’s real life couldn’t be more different from that of his character. He's a family man with two children and in his spare time, he enjoys rock-climbing, running, cycling and boxing.
He said of signing up for Strictly: "It’s something that’s completely out of my comfort zone and I like a challenge.
"It’s such a great Saturday night show and my family always sits down and watches it together so I’m really happy to be involved and I think my kids will really enjoy watching me take part."
Jake went on to claim he was "not nervous at all" about facing off against the judging panel: "They’re always positive and any criticism is usually constructive and it’s all for our benefit. I’ll take any criticism on board and work with it.
And on the sequins and glitter, Mac declared: "Bring it on! No, seriously I’m up for it all.
"I’ve signed up now and it’s part and parcel of the show, isn’t it? Yeah, bring it on!"
Strictly starts on September 7 on BBC One.
