Only one half of the husband and wife pro dance team will appear on this year's series, and James reckons that show bosses will try and trip Ola up.

According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, James told her: “I reckon the BBC will stitch you up this year. That will definitely happen.”

And angry James - who previously claimed that the "pantomime" judges needed to see a shake up - also took a swipe at the new all female hosting line up.

He explained: “Obviously the BBC have these amazing ideas that don’t always necessarily work.

"I think Claudia and Tess individually are fantastic people. Do I think it’s going to work for Strictly? I don’t know.

"I’m a firm believer that ballroom and Latin dancing is about a man dancing with a woman and I thought it was nice to have a man presenting as well.”

James had been offered a "reduced role" on this year's series but a spokesperson for the show said: “He declined this.”

Some names that have been more positively linked to the new series include Match of the Day football pundit Alan Hansen, TV hard man Ross Kemp, Xtra Factor’s Caroline Flack, Capital FM's Dave Berry and Radio 1 DJ Greg James.
