X Factor 2013 ratings: 11 million watch Sam Bailey win

A peak audience of over 11 million viewers watched as Sam Bailey was crowned winner of The X Factor 2013 last night.

11.5 million viewers tuned in as host Dermot O'Leary announced the result between Sam and Nicholas McDonald.

Including those who later caught up ITV+1, the peak rose to an impressive 11.9 million.

But despite the big numbers, the average audience was 9.5 million (9.7m with +1), the lowest rated final results since 2005.

It puts into context just how high ratings have been in the past, with peaks of closer to 20 million viewers for 2010's final.

Still, 11 million viewers is nothing to be sniffed at and is easily the highest audience not only of the night but also the week.

Over on BBC One and the latest Strictly Come Dancing results show managed to hold its own, despite a 10 minute clash with The X Factor.

The Strictly semi-final results, which saw Sophie Ellis Bextor, Abbey Clancy, Susanna Reid and Natalie Gumede go on to compete in the first ever all female female final next weekend, was watched by an average audience of 9.6 million.
