Nicky Byrne left Strictly Come Dancing 2012 tonight after going head to head with Denise Van Outen in the dance off.
With the Strictly trophy in sight, Sir Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly invited the six remaining couples to take to the dance floor in a bid to impress the judges - Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli & Craig Revel Horwood - and the viewers at home.
The judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples. When all the judges’ scores and viewer votes were combined, Nicky Byrne & Karen Hauer and Denise Van Outen & James Jordan became the next two couples to face the dreaded dance-off.
After both couples had performed for a second time the judges delivered their verdicts:
Craig chose to save Denise saying: “I save Denise and James.”
Darcey chose to save Denise saying: “They were both very strong performances but I’m going to save Denise and James.”
Bruno also chose to save Denise saying: “They both improved, but the outstanding couple were Denise and James.”
With this unanimous vote, it meant that Nicky Byrne became the ninth celebrity to leave the competition.
Nicky said “It has been just so much fun. It is the biggest and best show in the world. To come out every Saturday night is hard but it’s playing a different character, doing a different dance – it’s just been amazing.
"Karen, every week, every day has been incredible. We had a bit of a shaky start in terms of judges and stuff, but we just seemed to improve. I have to say thank you to the judges – you have been absolutely amazing with all your advice, all the people backstage – even the people that get you your coffee - I am going to miss the whole thing it’s been an amazing experience.”
And Karen reflected “I just want to say thank you to everyone – all the celebs and professional dancers. It’s been my first year and I could not have asked for a better celeb – [to Nicky] you were amazing.”
