Strictly Come Dancing 2012: Lisa Riley hits back at critics

Lisa Riley (Strictly Come Dancing)

Strictly Come Dancing star Lisa Riley had hit back at her critics after the weekends first performances.

Lisa topped the leaderboard after all fourteen celebs performed for the first time, scoring 30 points out of 40 from the judges.

The former Emmerdale star beat rivals and favourites including Louis Smith, Denise Van Outen and Kimberley Walsh to get the biggest score of the weekend.

Lisa said today that it proved she could dance, and wouldn't just be a novelty act.

Revealing how the show had already helped her to lose 10 pounds, she told the Daily Telegraph: “They think you just sit at home eating chips and gravy. But I’ve got rhythm. I’ve got a natural bounce."

Meanwhile Victoria Pendleton has a disastrous weekend, failing to remember her Cha Cha routine.

“I thought I’d pick it up easily and it would be like training for cycling. But the moves are not sticking,” she said.

Writing on Twitter to her fans, she added: Can’t believe I cried AGAIN! Especially when I said I was giving it up after the Olympics. I am silly.”

However Victoria's pro partner Brendan was quick to back her up, saying: “I’m so proud of what she can do and the effort she puts in. When you’re not a performer a wee mistake can be just enough to through you. Live television is tough.”

Strictly Come Dancing 2012 continues next Saturday night on BBC One, with all of the celebs performing their second dance. The first results show will follow on Sunday, with one celeb getting the boot!
