Strictly however peaked with a strong 9.8 million viewers, the highest launch show ever, while The X Factor peaked with 9.5 million.
With ITV1+1 viewers, The X Factor's average climbed to 9 million and a peak of 10 million, its highest audience this series.
The X Factor 2012 continues tonight with its final audition round, before moving on to the bootcamp stage of the contest next weekend.
Strictly Come Dancing meanwhile will take a break until next month, when the live shows will start on October 5.
