With the ITV1 breakfast show having just gone under a new revamp, Richard is set to help promote the new look program on the rival channel.
According to The Sun, Richard is an "eleventh hour" choice to join the line up in a bid to bring more fun.
The newspaper reports that bosses hope that Richard, known as Soapy Dick, will follow the success of Russell Grant.
A source told the tabloid this morning: “He will be our Strictly Clown this year and he is [h]happy to play that role.
“Russell Grant was a huge hit on Strictly last year and we are hoping that Richard will attract the same fans. He is hilarious and during meetings had everyone in stitches with his camp jokes.
“He is a great signing for us — we’re delighted to have him on board.”
The source added: “Richard is well up for the show and Strictly’s producers hope he will promote it to viewers of Daybreak.
“But it will mean they also end up promoting Daybreak on Strictly — which has far more viewers.”
The new series of Strictly Come Dancing airs next Saturday night, with the line up due to be announced early next week.
However some confirmed names in the line up have already been revealed.
