Olympic star Louis Smith is being lined up to join the Strictly Come Dancing 2012 line up next week.

The former X Factor hopeful is set to be swapping the pommel horse for the dance floor, with bosses keen to get the silver medalist on the BBC One series.

And according to The Sun, viewers can expect a number of Olympians on this year's show.

A [cat]Strictly Come Dancing[/cat] source told the newspaper: “Louis captured the hearts of viewers during the Olympics when he burst into tears after his pommel horse performance. Now we want him to win over viewers.

“As an athlete, he is fit and dedicated and would be capable of some amazing dance moves."

The supposed insider added: “He is also gorgeous which won’t do him any harm when it comes to audience support. He will definitely be one of the show’s heart-throbs. He has yet to sign on the dotted line but it’s likely when the line-up is announced next week he will be on the list of contestants.”

Louis won both a bronze and silver medal in the gymnastics events at the London 2012 games earlier this year.

A number of other Olympic champs, including cyclist Victoria Pendleton and gymnast Beth Tweddle, are also rumoured to be amongst this year’s stars.

Strictly Come Dancing starts on September 15 on BBC One.
