We first spoke about new ITV1 reality show 'Show Me The Funny' here on TellyMix back in February. The series, which will be fronted by stand-up comic Jason Manford, is hoped will become a 'comedy version of The X Factor' when it airs on the channel later this year.

The series will see comedians audition from all over the country to take part in the live shows, where they'll perform their own comic routines every week to a studio audience and millions of viewers.

10 funny hopefuls will battle it out to win a £100,000 prize plus a tour and DVD deal.

An ITV source told The Mirror today: “They have just started filming and had the first tasks in Liverpool before performing a gig. It went really well and all the signs are that the show will be a hit.”

The show will also mark the comeback for Jason Manford, who was forced to quit he quit BBC’s The One Show last year when he admitted having sex chats with a woman on Twitter.

A friend of Jason's told the newspaper: “He just wants to carry on with his career and do what he does best – making people laugh. This is a big show and it is great for him to have his own primetime gig that mixes the talent show format with comedy.”

The show will air on ITV1 later this year.
