Popstar to Operastar winner Joe McElderry has reportedly lost his voice after partying until 5AM after being crowned winner of the second series at the weekend. Joe celebrated his win - and being allowed to drink for the first time in weeks - with an all-nighter with friends and family.
Joe and runner up Cheryl Baker had both been banned from booze whilst on the show because alcohol affects his vocal cords. They also spent most of their days performing and exercising their voices, as well as practicing breathing techniques
However after winning the title on Sunday night, Joe revealed how he had a night of Karaoke wih Popstar to Operastar judge Katherine Jenkins and former Steps singer Claire Richards, who was eliminated in the semi-finals.
"We ended up singing lots of Steps songs," Joe joked. "I didn't get home until 5am, and had to be on ITV's Daybreak at six.
"It's not like me, I'd never normally stay out that late but it was the last time we would see each other properly and we were all celebrating the end of the show. We've grown very close."
Speaking to The Sun, Joe continued: "I was very careful with the alcohol thing. I can never sing when I drink alcohol."
But he joked: "We were doing the dance routine to Tragedy."
