After five weeks of gruelling vocal practice this weekend sees the climax of ITV1's Popstar to Operastar, with just two hopefuls left in the running. Former X Factor winner Joe McElderry and Bucks Fizz singer Cheryl Baker will go head to head this Sunday to compete for the title, but here we ask our readers who they think should win!
Speaking about her time on the reality show, Cheryl confessed that the programme had changed her mind on the genre. “I always thought opera was for toffs and posh people but I am loving it,” she said. “I knew nothing about opera before I went into the show.
“I auditioned for it because I thought it was a great opportunity its prime-time telly and it allows me to sing.”
The former Eurovision winner added that she'd love to sing one of her own tracks in an "Opera style" on Sunday night. "I’ve said to the producers if I reach the finals of ‘Popstar to Operastar’ then those of us left should be allowed to sing one of our own famous songs in an opera style."
Meanwhile Joe McElderry said the experience on the show has been "nothing" like he's done before. He said: “It’s full on, the training is…well, I’ve never done anything like it before, it’s like coming out of an exercise class.”
He added: “It’s so different to being on The X Factor. It’s much more technical.”
