Former X Factor winner Joe McElderry has called himself "stupid" for taking part in another reality show. The 19-year-old, who is currently competing in ITV1 series Popstar to Operastar, told heat magazine however that he liked a challenge.
Talking about the series, Joe said: “I’m a bit stupid, aren’t I? I’m putting myself through the whole process again. Crazy or what? But it’s going to be fun, and I do like a challenge.
“I’ve never really been into opera, so I’ve never listened to it. In terms of the kind of person I might sound like, I haven’t got a clue. I’ll try to go for Pavorotti.”
Joe sailed through the first live show two weeks ago and revealed recently he felt his "musical theatre” voice would help him to adopt to the opera style.
“My operatic voice is alright. It’s getting there. People always tend to say I have a loud, belty, musical-theatre kind of voice anyway, so hopefully that will help," Joe explained.
The teenager will perform in the next show this Sunday alongside Cheryl Baker, Andy Bell, Claire Richards, Melody Thornton and Joseph Washbourn.
Popstar to Operastar continues at 8PM on ITV1 on Sunday.
