Joe Washbourn says he fears Popstar to Operastar criticism

Popstar to Operatar hopeful Joe Washbourn has warned he may not be able to take criticism on his singing from the judges well. The Toploader frontman told The Sun said he wouldn't appreciate anyone "ripping apart" his singing.

This year's series will be judged by Katherine Jenkins, Rolando Villazón, Simon Callow and Vanessa-Mae.

Joe said: "I must admit criticism isn't something I'm drawn to at all. I hope it's constructive. I'm not going to appreciate someone sitting there picking holes, ripping me apart after I've only been doing opera for six weeks.

"I hope that doesn't happen. If it's a real confidence killer I can't see anyone gaining from that."

Joe will sing live for the first time in tonight's show, competing against Andy Bell, Claire Richards and Jocelyn Brown. Joe told the paper he felt that Steps star Claire could be his biggest competition.

"She is wonderful. I think she's going to have an incredible voice for opera," Joe said.

Popstar to Operastar continues tonight at 8PM on ITV1.
