Last Friday saw a vote open on the official app so viewers could save their favourite couple.

Those with the fewest votes risk being dumped from the show in tonight’s show, and it was Stephanie Lam and Josh Maier who left.

The girls’ fate was in the hands of the guys last week as they picked who they wanted to couple up with.

It was the first time in the recoupling for the four new Islanders, Stephanie Lam, Laura Crane, Paul Knops and Josh Maier, who joined the villa last Sunday night.

After the boys made their picks, the new official Love Island couples are now Josh Denzel & Kazimir Crossley, Wes Nelson & Megan Barton Hanson, Jack Fincham & Dani Dyer, Jack Fowler & Laura Crane, Paul Knops & Laura Anderson, Alex George & Alexandra Cane and Josh Mair & Stephanie Lam.

In tonight’s episode, a text arrived with those dreaded words: “Islanders please gather around the fire pit immediately.”

Aware of what is to come, Alex muttered: “Never simple is it? Never simple this place. Never an easy ride.”

As they gathered in their couples, the fateful news was delivered in a further text: “Islanders, the public have been voting for their favourite couple.

“The couple with the fewest votes will be dumped from the island tonight. The safe couples will now be announced in no particular order.”

Steph and Josh, who both entered the villa last Sunday night, were announced as the couple with the fewest votes and left the villa.

The pair had coupled up after both being left single in last Friday’s recoupling.

Reacting to her exit, Steph said: “I’m obviously gutted that I was only in there for a week, I’d love to have been in there longer and had more of a chance to find someone.

“Having said that, Josh and I were the only couple you weren’t romantically matched, so I do think it was our time to go and it wouldn’t have been fair if we were staying in over a romantic couple this close to the final. As upset as I am to be leaving I’m really happy that I just had a great week and made great friends out of it.”

Josh said: “Obviously it’s upsetting to be leaving, you connect with people and make friends for life. I had only been in there a week, but I was really happy there. I wasn’t fake, I was honest with my feelings. I was completely myself. I’ll definitely keep in touch with everyone.”

Love Island 2018 airs nightly at 9PM on ITV2.
