Love Island winners Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey are expecting a baby together.
The news follows last year's champions of the ITV2 series parting ways last month after just under a year as a couple.
"It's a shame and a sad situation," Cara admitted this week. "I know a lot of people will think, well you're going to have a baby together so just stay together – but we're not going to do that just to look like the perfect couple."
Cara revealed her baby news to OK! Magazine, explaining how she was shocked to discover she was pregnant after an unrelated hospital appointment.
"A nurse came back and said: 'You're pregnant!'" Cara recalled. "I was with my mum and we just looked at each other in complete shock. I went in for one thing and came out expecting a baby."
Cara added that she and Nathan remained "good friends" and he'd be supporting her throughout the pregnancy.
"He's going to be there for the baby and I'm making him aware of all the midwife appointments and scans, so he's in the loop and so's his mum," she said.
Discussing her split from Nathan earlier this year, Cara suggested that they went too fast by moving in with one another following the end of Love Island last year.
"People would tell us we were moving too quick and, on reflection, they were right," she said. "When we came off Love Island, we were thrown into this world where we were known only as a couple, and everything centred around being that couple."
Cara shared with Reveal magazine: "If I was given a magic wand, I’d go back to our time after Love Island, and we wouldn’t have moved in together.
"We’d go back to dating and take it slower. I think then we’d still be happy."
Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey's baby is the second from a Love Island couple; series one pairing Cally Jane Beech and Luis Morrison welcomed a daughter last weekend.
